The impacts of job stress and supervision on burnout among care workers in long-term care facilities£ºProfessional identity as a mediator

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the associations of job stress, supervision, and burnout among care workers in the long-term care facilities and to analyze the mediating effect of professional identity. For the purpose of the study, the survey was conducted and the data were collected from 279 care workers by using non-random and purposive sampling method. The results of the study showed that job stress and supervision were significant predictors in explaining in the variance of burnout and professional identity. In addition, professional identity of participants was a statistically significant mediator in the associations of between job stress and burnout, and between supervision and burnout. Findings of the study indicated that care workers` burnout could be prevented by not only improving work condition and organizational culture, but also strengthening professional identity. Finally, based on the findings of the study, impli- cations for practices and recommendations of further studies were provided.
